The Fort Worth Stock Yards are a truly interesting piece of Fort Worth History. It’s a great place to take a tour of Old Wild West History, by yourself, with a date, or with the whole family. There are real Rodeos every Friday night.
Every day twice a day you can see the cattle drive from the barn to the arena. You can sit on a long horn steer and have your picture taken. If you find the back arena you can have a ride on a horse. On certain days you may find pony rides for kids, a petting zoo, and old west hero’s walking around. Old Jesse James himself may come talk to you (Actor of course). There is all sorts of interesting trivia, unique shops, and lots of dining. There is even a small jail to take pictures in. A very fun feature is a maze made of wooden walls. You can time yourself to find all the letters and then make it back to the front. If you get out in time you can choose a small prize. Take several turns to beat your best time. Come back a month or two later and the walls have moved and you start from scratch again.Among the interesting shops are a spice shop, old candy shop, souvenirs, and other interesting knick knacks…and lots and lots and lots of cow stuff! A stop by Billy Bob’s Texas Bar B Que or Cattlemen’s Fort Worth Steak Houseare always a treat for western style cookin’.There is a little mall area that you can walk into off the beaten path. There is an artist doing caricatures and more knick Knack Shops. It’s worth an afternoon to take a walk around the Fort Worth Stock Yards.Parking: I do advise taking a drive around back. Pull off of main street onto Stockyards Blvd. Follow that until it curves around a bend and becomes Packers Ave. Around 2300 Packers Ave, Fort Worth Texas 76164 you should find a big red building. If you park back there it’s usually free and the easiest access to the events of interest.
Also, if you just wanted to go for the day and you live in the north DFW area you could always come in the morning to Grapevine. Hop on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad and come on down to the Stockyards for a few hours. The train pulls right into the area between the shops and even crosses the main street.
I do hope you enjoy your visit. Have a great time!
