Tiff’s Treat – Warm Cookie Delivery

Tiff’s Treat – Warm @ CookieDelivery.com is AMAZING!

  • 114 E John Carpenter Frwy Irving, TX 75062
  • Phone number(972) 889-7700
  • Yelp HERE

You know that smell of freshly baked cookies? It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Several times in the past few weeks, my co-worker has had that smell emanating from her desk. Kindly, she's offered me a cookie.

It was warm, soft, breaks just right (not too hard, or too soft). It was literally the perfect cookie.

Seeing as Chocolate Chip cookies are quite literally in my top ten favorite things to eat.. I was in heaven for a few moments of an otherwise stressful day.

Come to to find out... this is a delivery service, not just something she brought from home.

You can order freshly made, still warm cookies to be delivered to your door (if you are in delivery range).

Their menu (here) includes more than just cookies. They also do Ice Cream, Brownies, and other deserts.

They have several delivery areas (here).

Needless to say... the creator of this business was a genius!

Great job Tiff's Treats!

Mai Thai (Haslet, TX) | A little hole in the wall Thai Food place you HAVE to try!

Mai Thai (Menu HERE)

201 FM 156 N Haslet, TX

I'm always looking for good Thai Food. This was one I missed for too long, and I'm glad I finally came!

If you are in downtown Haslet, with the train tracks to your back, city hall to your left and Mr. Jims to your right… This place is tucked away just next to Mr. Jims. It was a restaurant built into an old house. Easily miss-able, I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner.

Yelp: HERE
Urban Spoon: HERE

Mai Thai Restaurant on Urbanspoon

Overview

I’ve lived in Sendera Ranch (Haslet) since this place opened (2010), and I half noticed it, but didn’t give it a second thought. Which is silly, because I enjoy Thai Food. The parking is on the side and back.

Then I met Linda at the Q.T. gas station, we started chatting about the area. She told me this was one of her favorite restaurants. I was like really? That little place? I didn’t know it was still open. She told me I HAD to go.

I walk up the front path into a seating room with a handful of tables. As I open the door I am wafted with the familiar smells of Thai Curry… I feel at home before I’d taken my first step.
I was greeted by a friendly young lady, who was quite knowledgeable about this business and food. She was also VERY well trained in customer service skills
“Since this is your first time here, let me tell you about our menu”.
That’s something more people don’t think to say.

They used to be called Mai Thai Sushi. They stopped serving Sushi (not enough demand), but they still serve amazing Thai Food. Unfortunately for them, the whited out “Sushi” on the sign does even less, from a Marketing perspective, to build brand trust. It also adds to the feeling that they’re closed.

I have a feeling if they got a Marketing person to come give them a facelift and image re-rebrand (mostly to the building) they would get MUCH more traffic, and the demand for Sushi would be back. It probably wouldn’t take much, a new door, clean up the landscaping, new sign. A few visual cues as to where to park and where to enter.

Anyway…

My wife and I put in an order for our two favorites, threw in a random one, and the MUST HAVE Coconut Mango Rice. I forgot to grab the Thai Iced Tea on my way out with my To-Go order. Ooops. Sorry Honey.

When I got it home, we sat and opened everything. Turned on the latest Blacklist, and enjoyed the best Thai I’ve had in a long time. There was so much Curry Sauce left over, that I mixed some of it in my Tuna and made a Red Curry Tuna Sandwich for lunch the next day.
It’s nice to know that there is another Thai place in Texas worth going to. I WILL be back.

Cost

Pad Thai (Chicken, Beef, Pork or Combo) $8.95
Thai rice noodles stir-fried w/ eggs, bean sprouts, onions, flavored with lime and crunchy peanuts.

Gaeng Dang (Red Curry) $9.95
Coconut milk with bamboo slices, bell peppers, and basil leaves.
Pineapple Curry Fried Rice $8.95
Choice of meat, stir fried w/ onions, carrots and cashews, tomatoes yellow and green onion. Seasoned with Thai yellow curry tossed with pineapple.

Coconut Rice Mango $4.95

Total around $37.00 (ish) after tax. That's not an eat every day price, but it's roughly on par with more Thai places, and each entre is a LOT of food.

Kids

I suppose it depends on your kids.

Currently, our kids won’t try Thai Food… but I suspect my youngest will (he enjoyed it when he was younger). If you are going to dine in, you may want to check out their menu so see if it’s going to meet your kids needs before you go (or get them food before).

Tips to enjoy it better...

It may look closed when you drive up. They could use a little updating to the façade to make it more inviting. But it’s worth parking on the side or in the back and walking in.

All entrees come without spice (for the weak of palate) and you can add spice to your liking to any dish. (Level 1-5). We went with a 2 to be safe, and this was just about right for us, it had heat, but not too much.

They also do delivery within five miles. So, if you live in Sendera Ranch or Haslet, the PARTY IS ON!

Final Thoughts

Sometimes you just have to try new places, even if they are a little off the beaten path. The “hole in the wall” types are often some of the best food! This one is no exception.

03/02/15 | Snow... well... not really snow.

It's Christmas in March!

Since I've been in Fort Worth Texas, I've seen more ice than snow. This is a perfect example.  These tiny ice balls hit you and the ground, and accumulate. From a distance of even a few inches it looks like snow. But touch it, or walk on it, and you will discover... it's not snow.

This ice crunches. It's not fluffy. It's slippy to walk on. It's DANGEROUS to drive on! It's like trying to drive on an ice skating rink.If you hear a warning of freezing rain, or sleet accumulations... plan on not going to work, even if your job is dumb enough to open and ask you to be there. At 7am this morning, there was already one fatality on the I-30.

However, on the other the lighter side, it's really fun to slide in!

Pirch (Kitchen.Bath.Outdoor.Joy.) | Northpark Center (Mall) North Dallas Texas

Pirch Kitchen.Bath.Outdoor.Joy.

Northpark Center (Mall) in North Dallas Texas.

Overview

I'm going to start by paraphrasing their own pamphlet: "Do you remember back when shopping for appliances and plumbing was a relaxing and enjoyable experience? Neither do we... so we decided to change that..." Praphrse.

WOW! One of the reasons I enjoy reading +Seth Godin is because he understands, is even on the cutting edge, of what it means for companies and corporations to leave behind the industrial model of cookie cutter transactions; instead, to create a connection and experience. Pirch is to HomeDepot what the iPhone is to a 1950's rotory phone.

Even that pales in comparison. Everything is so clean and pristine. Many of the sink and shower features actually work, you can see the shower turn on, and how the water would flow. They have a waterfall faucet! Amazing!

The store is much larger than it first appears, it just goes on and on. They have two walk up bars where they serve complimentary drinks and fruit (apples, strawberries, blueberries). I had a Mocha Latte. Not only did I receive this complimentary, not what I was expecting when I walked in, but the Latte was frothed with the skill of the great barrista's, not just slopped together.

There are so many things to touch, and experience, it nearly overloads the imagination. By the time I was ready I was completely re-thinking my imaginations on what it would mean to remodel our home, or build a new one.
I give you an excerpt from their website, which hints to their culture:

OUR MANIFESTO:
One part Passion, One part Conviction, One part Macaroni and Cheese.

Would you like to know the secret to life?
Okay, but If you don’t mind, we’ll dispense with the drumroll, and just get on with it.
Which, by the way, is the secret to life: GET ON WITH IT.
Live it now, with all your might. Use it up. Wring it out. Leave it gasping in a corner, asking “Did anyone get the license plate number?”
Please remember, there is no second act. Life has no back-button. No rewind. We simply journey through moments, and then those moments are gone.
Poof.
But what’s that got to do with buying a tub, or a grill, or a range? What’s that got to do with a “Battle Cry”?
Well, we wrote it to remind us of our daily mission. And our mission is to make moments count.
That might take the form of a candle-lit bubble bath. Or game-day steaks with lifetime friends. Or, the world’s best mac & cheese, made by a dad for his three little girls, who will remember that moment for the rest of their lives.
Make no mistake: moments are everything.
And that is the secret to life.

Cost

Unkown - These are high end components that they sell. If you are looking for cheap plastic things that will tide you over, head to HomeDepot. I didn't notice prices listed, which means that this is a high end store. But if you have money to spend, and you want to do your house right, this is a must visit place.

If you are not doing anything yet, and you are just dreaming at this point... at any price point... you need to spend an hour (or more) dreaming here.

Kids

Despite the high end nature of this place, it was quite kid friendly. They got the kids some water and fruit, and they were able to turn knobs and they enjoyed dreaming as much as we did.

But keep your eye on them, there are so many walls, knooks, and crevices, you could loose them easily.

Tips to enjoy it better...

As you walk in, head to the left up to the bar, and confidently ask for a... whatever you see that you want. Mocha Latte?

Final Thoughts

I'm expanding my vision of being a home owner... I don't just want to own a house, I want to own a home. I want to rip out the builder supplied base level appliances and hardware, and upgrade. It's time to take dominion over my domain... how about you... ready to dream bigger and nicer?

Truthical - The Role Is Yours | @GatewayPeople Southlake Texas

Truthical - The Role Is Yours (Musical)

+GatewayPeople Gateway Church, Southlake Texas

Overview

I'm sorry to be writing after the weekend is over... next year I should go on Friday and write so that other will still have time to know. Maybe you'll find this next year and plan to go in December 2015 (and beyond).

This is a musical play, written, directed, and produced by and for Gateway Church, in Southlake Texas. This was put in annually on Fri, Sat, and Sun. The musical takes paradies from some of the best known plays, musicals, sitcoms, and cartoons... stories of any kind... and weaves them into a beutifal "meaning on Christmas" and "meaning of Christ" message. I was laughing and crying, which is not common from someone as stoic as I try to be.

If you ever find that Gateway has put on a play or musical production, it is a MUST go, even if you are not a church goer... maybe especially if you are not.

Cost

FREE... or, "your life". If you had been there, you'd get the reference.

Kids

I brought the kids into the show, instead of taking them to children's church, and they enjoyed it as much as I did. There was fog, and lights, and fireworks, and explosions... funny parady excerpt adaptations of plays such as Cats, and Fiddler on the Roof. Maybe adaptation is the wrong word. Maybe Homage, or allusion, would be a better word?

Tips to enjoy it better...

Do not go at 10:45 am on Sunday. That is the busiest service. I suggest going Friday or Saturday.

Final Thoughts

I was left profoundly impacted... I was left with a feeling that has been with me no 24 hours...

Is this it? Is there more? Is this my only role? So I accept Jesus and die and go to heaven... what about life now? Is there more to my purpose and calling on this planet now? The answer is yes... the WHAT... now THAT is the question!

How To Make A LEGO Cake!

LEGO Cake Rocks!

Birthday Fun

My kid wanted a LEGO Birthday Cake... So my wife got her creative hat on and went to work. Here's how she did it.

LEGO CAKE Attribution: DarrellWolfe.Com
LEGO CAKE Attribution: DarrellWolfe.Com

Overview

So my kids REALLY enjoy LEGO! LEGO everything! So a while back we (my wife) made a LEGO CAKE for my son's birthday! I thought I'd take a break from reviewing places and tell you how to make it.

You'll need:

  • Three Rectangular Cakes (Any Flavor, we chose "Rainbow White Cake")
  • Several Batches of Chocolate Chip Cookies (or you favorite kind).
  • One Over-sized Bottle Cap from a large three liter bottle.
    • Or some other round object the size you want.
    • * She did find that the ridges in the bottle cap tended to stick to the cookies making them hard to get out. She destroyed several. Finding something with not inside edges could be good.
  • White Frosting
  • Food Coloring
  • Baking Sheet (Or Large Presentation Dish, once it's built you kind of don't pick it up).

The steps:

  1. Use REAL LEGO bricks to build your model.
  2. Bake the Cakes and Cookies.
  3. Use the cookie cutter/bottle cap to cut as many round little cookies as you want.
  4. Cut off the top layer, making it flat. Frost the first cake.
  5. Leave any area you are stacking on flat. The exposed area frost several cookies, stacked on each other and place those on top to make the LEGO DOT look.
  6. Keep Stacking layer by layer.
  7. Add Real LEGO toys on top.

Cost

Very Cheap. Didn't count the cost on this one, but it's a few box cake mixes from the store, cookies mix, frosting, time.

The Actual LEGO's to put on top the cake were the most expensive part, but that would have been wrapped as a present anyway had we not done this.

Kids

My kids REALLY enjoyed this!

How to make my favorite-easy comfort food: Glen Rolls!

    Growing up with comfort food.

The oven opens and out comes the pan. The smell of toasted croissant, warm sauce, chicken and cheese… lot’s of cheese, wafts through the air. To a teenager who still doesn’t like most food that adults pretend to like (Cauliflower) this was a haven at family gatherings.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other family event there was one thing I could look forward to.

So, they may have some other name, but in my family’s house growing up we called them Glen Rolls. Uncle Glen loved these things. So we named them after him. I was also named after him, Darrell Glen Wolfe, so I had two reasons to enjoy these things.

    Comfort Food Glen Rolls

Eventually time past and I learned to make them myself, and my tastes have expounded so I improved on the recipe. Sometimes I stick to the original because it’s just that good.

There is one big problem with these… I can’t not eat them. I make one batch and it rarely lasts the night. I make extra to take for lunch and rarely does that last the night either.
So without further ado, here is how to make my favorite comfort food!

    Glen Rolls Prep

    Ingredients:
    • Shredded Chicken
    • Cheese
    • Croissant Rolls
    • Salt and Pepper to taste.
    The sauce
    • Cream of Chicken (or whatever you want) soup.
      • One or two cans of sauce for every eight croissants.
    • Milk (or soy/almond milk if you prefer, which we do), used to thin the sauce out.
    Prep:
    • Pre Heat Oven to 350
    • Prepare a flat surface to do some rolling and stuffing. Laying down some plastic wrap, wax paper, or other non stickiness to the surface can be helpful!
These are the base, the canvass. I’ve learned to add and build on this over time. Things to consider.

    The Protein

For the chicken, on a budget you could just get canned chicken meat near the tuna at the store. You could boil chicken breasts to shred. Or you could go all out, bake, broil, barbeque, etc your chicken with spices and rubs then shred it. You could substitute chicken for other meats.

    Cheese and Stuffing

I typically use the packet of pre shredded Monterey Jack and Colby grocery store cheese. But you could use anything here.

I often cut into very fine pieces random extras. Maybe onion, garlic, bell pepper, or any other veggie or stuffing you like.

Mix your shredded chicken, cheese, salt, pepper, and any extras you are adding together in a large mixing bowl.

    The sauce

In a separate bowl mix the cream of chicken (or cream of what you like) soup with milk.
Add Milk until you reach a texture you like.

You are going for a sauce here so add what you need to retain some thickness but have a saucy consistency.
I’ve never quite nailed down an exact amount, so go with what you want. Not too thin or thick. Maybe gravy like consistency?

Just a bit too thin could be better than too thick so it spreads well, and then pours on top when serving.

Putting it together, the Glen Rolls recipe

    Phase One
    1. Lay down a thin layer of the sauce in a large rectangular baking pan.
      1. Just a thin layer for stickiness. Keep most of the sauce for later.
    2. Lay out your croissant and either with a roller or you hand, flatten it out some.
    3. Take a portion of the stuffing mixture, maybe a heaping tablespoon, and place it onto the thick end of the triangle.
    4. Wrap and roll it all up. You may have some sticking out, but try to wrap it up fairly well.
    5. Place these rolls into the baking pan. Feel free to stuff them together, but leave just a breath of room between them so the sides bake. They can be touching, but just barely.
    6. Place these into the preheated over (350*F)
    7. Bake for Aprx 10-15 minutes. The croissants should be browning, basically looking like a good roll would if you were just making rolls.
    8. When these are basically cooked through you are going to pull them out and add the sauce.
    9. Pour sauce all over these rolls, cover thoroughly.
    10. Top with as much cheese as you like… I like a lot.
      1. And yes, that’s cheese inside and on top… these are NOT healthy, their comfort food!

Glen Rolls Prepped after phase one

    Phase Two
    1. Put back into oven and bake another 20-30 minutes.
      1. Cheese should be browned just a tad and sauce boiling.
    2. Pull them out and let cool for 10 minutes.
     Glen Rolls. Cheese Browned

    Serve

Serve them two or three to a person along with any other sides you may want. I often just scoop them into a big bowl and devour them, but you could go for a prettier presentation. For me that two or three often becomes 5-10. If you make them with larger croissants they may be more filling.

    Glen Rolls Served

Ultimate Comfort Food. Glen Rolls In A Bowl

I hope you try and enjoy these. If you aren’t totally satisfied with the base version. Improvise. Change the protein and cheese. Try Salmon and Gouda with a cream of mushroom? Explore and create your own canvas.

So here’s my question for you? What is YOUR favorite comfort food?

Half-Price Books Fort Worth, Texas Hwy 377

    Half-Price Books

    Fort Worth, Texas Hwy 377

    Rating (5 Being the Best)

    4.5!

    Overview

So I went to Pei Wei on Hwy 377 just south of the Watauga Target. Not my usual Pei Wei, but just as good!

While I'm waiting for my ToGo order I take a walk next door, two doors down. There is a place called Half Price Books. Honestly I really enjoy a good book store, but didn't think much of the name or sign and I've past it up several times before. Today I have time so I walk in. This place is just what a good used book store should be. It's FULL of books.

I walk into the smell of old pages, shelves lined, and stuffed, with material from top to bottom. A cove for each section lines the walls with shelves through the middle of the store as well. I found everything from Mitt Romney's Autographed book, to all the For Dummies editions. Then I turn the corner and...

    It's not just books!

They have Wii, PS3, and Xbox games, magazines, comic books. It was a pretty cool experience, and I'll most definitely be back!

    Cost

Exactly what you'd expect. Some items were $50, some were $3. I picked up a For Dummies brand book that retails new for $20 they had it for $9.99.

    Kids

They had a whole area just for kids, it was pretty cool. If you are looking for more kids books for your library at home, stop by Half Price Books.

    Tips to enjoy it better...

They also have locations all over DFW, not just this one.

    Check out their website: http://www.hpb.com

They also buy and sell all of this. So if you have old books, comics, etc, that you'd like to sell to them, bring it by.

    Final Thoughts

What a cool place. I'll be back for all my book hunting needs.
